Rules
"Code of Conduct & Community Standards"
We have zero tolerance for players harassing others. This includes out-of-character verbal abuse, threats, name calling, unwanted conversations, and any other communication that is deemed unwarranted toward an individual. Violators of this rule may be banned from the game and the Discord. A MUD community is a small, tightly-knit group and it’s absolutely paramount that everyone feels included and welcomed.
Despite guardrails put up by code, there are always ways to interfere with another’s enjoyment of the game. There is no player killing (PK) in Elara so any actions that directly lead to the death of other characters would likely be considered griefing. Other examples include spamming the screen with messages, following a player around and continually interrupting their gameplay, or otherwise being a detriment to fun. We are all here to play a game and enjoy it together. Remember this as you interact with others.
At some point or another, you may encounter a bug in the game. Please report bugs so they can be fixed by the staff. Do not, under any circumstance, use a bug to your advantage in the game. This could result in a character’s progress being reset or even a character being deleted. We want a fair environment for our players.
We have a wide range of players across the game and it’s important to have an inclusive environment that is comfortable for everyone. For this reason, obscene language or situations with adult themes should be handled with care. Sexually explicit content is strictly prohibited. Violators will be banned.
While playing Elara, you should be in-character at all times (except when using OOC channels). This means speaking and acting as your character would act and not as you, the player, would act. Keep out-of-character things separate from in-character ones. Always remember this is a medieval fantasy game and words and actions should be consistent with this theme and the components of the game’s setting. This keeps the immersion intact for everyone playing the game.
You are only allowed to be logged in with one character at a time. You also cannot use one character to grant benefits to your other characters such as transferring equipment or materials. This also includes separating in-character knowledge for each of your characters. If one character learns of a secret plot against a Faction, you cannot use this knowledge with another character unless they also learn about it legitimately in-game. Because breaking this rule is difficult to observe or prove, we place a tremendous amount of trust on our players to follow it for the good of the game. If someone is found to have multi-played, consequences will be at the discretion of the staff to correct the situation.
When deciding if you should take a certain action, don’t attempt to “rules lawyer” it into being acceptable. Simply ask yourself if that action would be frowned upon by other players or staff. MUDs are unique because they grant tremendous agency to players to play the character they want and explore a fantasy world. But always remember there are others here with you and this is a joint experience. Do your part to make it enjoyable for everyone!
